Jordan See Job Shadow Essay Job shadowing a guitar professor for a whole day is an experience that I really enjoyed. The professor’s name was Kevin Cooper. He is a professor at Fresno city college. I chose to job shadow him because he is a really cool guy, and he holds job that i want in the future. First of all, I arrived at Fresno city college at 8:30am. I met up with Dr.Cooper and told him good morning and gave him a firm handshake. I walked in his class and he introduced me to his class and asked me to grab my guitar and join his beginning class, so I did. He started by making the class warm their fingers up for 10mins. He made them play simple picking patterns. The bell rang after and I got a 20min break till next class start, so I made my way to the cafeteria to get something to munch on for breakfast. I got to the Cafeteria and bought a turkey sandwich and a bottle of water. I sat on one of the tables and ate my food, and after, I went back to the classroom because it was 5mins left before his next class. Next class has started and it’s an intermediate class. I was just practicing throughout that period. 1 hour passed and advance students came in and some where my friends that was with me when they were still in high school. I asked how long their class was and they told me it was the shortest class. I was so excited because it was lunch after. I stayed quiet the whole time while they were practicing because the music they were playing was to hard for me to read. 30mins in and it was time for lunch. I told Dr. Cooper that I need to interview him when he wasn't busy and he told me that he would be open at 2;30pm, so my old classmates invited me to go eat lunch with them at carl's Jr, and so we went. We got there and I bought a three way bacon hamburger; it was the best. After eating, while I was resting at Carl’s Jr. Dr.Cooper emailed me saying that he wanted me to interview him at 1:30pm in his office because he has a meeting in 45mins and it was 1:23pm, so I quickly hurried back. I made it back in time but I couldn't find him. I walked all around the campus like 3 times and still couldn't find him so I went back to his classroom and I saw my friends so I asked where Dr.Coopers office was and they told me. I finally found him and I was about 1 hour late but I wasn't stressing so much because his meeting canceled. We went outside for the interview and I asked him some questions for my job shadow and after, he graded me. He invited me to a guitar clinic with Brian Garcia from 4pm to 6pm. I decided to stay for the clinic. During the clinic Brian taught me new techniques. After the clinic I thanked Brian for teaching me new techniques and I also thanked Dr.Cooper for letting me job shadow him. Throughout the whole day of my job shadow I learned some exciting things about being professor. I also thought that it was cool that I liked everything about the job shadow; I had no dislikes. I learned that you need a masters degree at minimum and a doctor's degree. I also learned that to get a job in a college for music you have to have lots of experiences in tutoring, volunteering, and you have to publish music. What I like about being a professor is that your like your own boss unlike a high school teacher, always having someone looking over their shoulder. Plus you don’t get payed by hours, you get payed if you teach your students. I learned that the best part about being professor is that you get to hangout with students just jamming out. Overall, this a great job I would like to have in the future because you get to hangout and jam out with students. I like the way that your like your own boss when you're a professor.
